Malaysia VEP basics for Singapore cars
If you drive a Singapore-registered car into Malaysia, Vehicle Entry Permit requirements are part of the trip. Check the vehicle’s VEP status before you reach the border rather than trying to sort it out at the checkpoint.
VEP registration
Malaysia’s Road Transport Department (JPJ) states that foreign vehicles entering Malaysia must register through the official VEP system.
The registration is tied to the vehicle. JPJ also describes the VEP RFID tag as vehicle-specific, so it should not be moved between vehicles.
Documents and vehicle validity
JPJ says a Singapore vehicle entering Malaysia needs valid vehicle insurance and valid vehicle-related documentation. Check the details before a driving trip, especially after a change of ownership or document renewal.
Use the official JPJ VEP portal for registration and status checks rather than third-party registration services.
Road Charge
JPJ’s current VEP FAQ lists a Road Charge of RM20 per entry for foreign privately owned vehicles, separate from tolls. Rules and payment methods can change, so check the official FAQ before travel.
RunSGD can help with the driving route and checkpoint context, but VEP compliance remains the vehicle owner or driver’s responsibility.
Official sources
Transport and immigration rules can change. RunSGD links to official sources so you can verify requirements before travel.
